WHAT ARE YOUR QUESTIONS?

Date: 10/11/05 Name: Suzan State: Arizona

Q. How do I put glitter on a quilt?

A: If you are using appliques, fuse them to your quilt panel. You want to do all your fusing first. Iron freezer paper to the back of the panel or use repositionable sticky paper. Tape panel to a slightly larger mat board. Use AIG's Fabric Dries Clear Adhesive and any of your favorite colors. Don't worry about the extra glitter that is clinging to the fibers. This will not stick. Shake off excess glitter after it is dry before you heat set it.

To heat set, turn the oven on to 300 degrees for 5 minutes and shut it off. Remove the backing from your panel and place on a foil covered cookie sheet. Let set in the hot turned off oven for 30 minutes. After all the panels are glittered and heat set, you can sew them together to make your quilt. Sewing through Fabric Dries Clear Adhesive does not gum your sewing machine up. Our fabric adhesive remains soft and flexible as a T-shirt.

Q. How do I use Fantasy Film?

A: Fantasy Film can be stamped with permanant ink or textured without ink by ironing it over a surface. In its raw state, it is weak. After heat bonding, it becomes strong and can be cut with scissors or die-cut. You can make your own unique sequins!

To make 3-D fairy wings for a card, rubberstamp and artistcally finish the fairy image on cardstock. Ink the same stamp with black permanent (not pigment) ink. Add three or more layers of your favorite color of Fantasy Film on top of the inked stamp. Put parchment paper on top. Pre-heat a "non-stick" coated iron to a wool setting. For one second, press on top of the parchment. Then move the iron around and around for another 2-3 seconds. Too much dwell time will burn the film.

Remove the parchment and peel off the bonded layers. Decorate with Art Glitter using Designer Dries Clear Adhesive with the Ultrafine Metal Tip attached.Leave spaces without glitter so the beautiful film shows as well. Let dry two hours. Cut out wings and glue on top of fairy. Or, leave a tab on the wing. Make a small slice in the cardstock where the wings attach to the fairy. Bend wings at the tab and insert tab in opening. Glue or tape to the cardstock on the back.

To make sequins, bond four + layers together. Texurize, cut a shape and punch one or more 1/8" holes. Sew into place.

Q. How do you use Fantasy Fiber?

A: Fantasy Fiber can also be heat bonded. Put several wisps of different fiber colors together on parchment paper or on a mat board. Cover with parchment paper. Briefly iron (1-2 seconds) with an iron set to medium high. Glue on as a background, cut out a shape, or sew into place as onto a quilt. Hand washable. This butterfly is backed up with Fantasy Film.

Fantasy Fiber may be heat bonded flat or carded into yarns, woven into knitted sweaters or couched (twisted into a rope) and hand sewn in place.
